Bradenton's Donald Sisemore was the top Manatee County finisher at the U.S. Senior Open qualifier Monday at Dunedin Country Club. However, Sisemore's 72 was good for a tie for fifth place. Only the top two scores advanced to the U.S. Senior Open.
At TPC Prestancia, Bradenton's Benjamin Boulch (71), IMG Academy teacher Kevin Collins (71) and Lakewood Ranch High alum Rocky Khara (73) earned berths into the Florida Open on July 20-22 at Sara Bay Country Club and Ritz-Carlton Members Golf Club.
Manatee High's Gianna Tomeo earned one of three berths into the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships with a three-round total of 228 in the Pacific Central district qualifier on June 29 in Utah. Tomeo competes in the girls 15-18 age division, and she joins fellow Hurricane and Parrish resident Cole Johnson as locals to advance to the tournament that is slated for July 19-24 (boys 14-15) and July 24-29 (girls 15-18) at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.
Attention girl golfers: LPGA teaching pro Cathy Schmidt will host a free golf clinic from 9 a.m.-noon July 14 at Terra Ceia Bay Golf Club in Palmetto. The event is for girls 7-14, and each attendee will receive a LPGA-USGA Girls Golf School lunch backpack. To register and inquire more information, contact Schmidt at 941-720-9080.
Saint Stephen's Connor Lynch notched the highest finish for county golfers when he snagged a tie for 10th in the FSGA's Junior Golf Tour's 16-18 event at Bent Pine Golf Club in Vero Beach. Lynch fired a 147 total, including a 72 in the final round.
n Bradenton's Drew Angelo won the boys 12-and-younger division of the Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association's 18-hole Regular Tour event held Monday at Laurel Oak Country Club's East Course. He posted an 86 to win by one shot.
HOLE-IN-ONE
n On March 31 at University Park, Tom Bauer aced the 149-yard 5th hole with a 6-iron. Witnesses were Joe Helewicz, Steve Sharple and Dick Girvin.
n On April 19 at Greens of Manatee, Eddy Gallant aced the 102-yard 17th hole with a 9-iron. Witnesses were Dennis Lambert, Merv McCullough and Eric Meuse.
