Public Speaking Marketing Tips - Autoresponders

Autoresponder Purposes and Strategies

Here are some strategies used by successful Internet marketers to write follow up autoresponder messages that will help you gain much higher levels of customer satisfaction and make more money. You can use the sequential autoresponders in http://www.kickstartcart.com/ for the following purposes:

? Free Ecourses

? Paid Ecourses

? Customer Service

? Reduction of "Buyer's Remorse"

? Customer Upsell

? Reduction of hassle

Customer Service

Customer service online needs to be better than in a face-to-face transaction. There is no personal interaction involved unless the customer has to call for something or you call them. This makes many customers very nervous. They are sitting at home wondering if they did the right thing by ordering. In many cases they are wondering if the transaction went through at all. You want them to hear from you right away. You want them to start to feel like "hey this company didn't just disappear with my money."

Buyer's Remorse

A typical problem in both online and off line sales is buyer's remorse, i.e., the customer is thinking, "Gee, I wish I hadn't bought that. I really didn't need it. Maybe I shouldn't have spent that much, etc."

Strategy

Part of the strategy in using sequential autoresponders is to start that feeling in the customer that you didn't just run off to a cyber resort with their money and sip cybermint juleps while they are trying to pay off their credit card. At the same time you can give them the feeling that purchasing from you was a good deal and that they made the right decision by purchasing and that they do need what they bought and that it was perfectly fine spending what they did . . . in fact it was dirt cheap." The rest of the strategy has to do with the fact that you would never want to make these follow-up contacts if you had to do it by phone or even by email. You should be too busy searching out new business all the time.

Using http://www.kickstartcart.com/?'s sequential auto responders will allow you to multiply yourself and get the job done that you'd like to do, but wouldn't normally have time to do. Also, a significant part of this whole deal is to use the sequential autoresponders to upsell the customer to additional related products based on what they have already purchased.

MOAR YONG. My love affair/obsession continues. After trying and LOVING the "tuna steak" I thought I would? try the other similar item on the menu. Not so similar at all it turns out. I didn't like this one half as much as the tuna, but it was still pretty delicious.

The raw fudge was mouth watering. Quite bitter and creamy with a teeny bit of sweetness, was exactly what the doctor ordered. I'm relatively obsessed with Yong at the moment so strap yourselves in as I will be eating my way through their entire menu.

Do election laws encourage attack ads in campaigns?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington operatives call it "drawing contrasts." Voters call it "slinging mud."

Whatever the term used, the most expensive election in U.S. history is likely to feature an unprecedented amount of negative advertising as Republicans and Democrats vie for control of the White House and Congress, campaign officials told the Reuters Washington Summit.

The attack ads could be driven in part by laws that aim to keep elections clean by separating campaigns from interest groups, according to the spokesman for a Republican group that plans to spend $300 million this year.

"It's difficult for any outside organization to run effective positive ads," said Jonathan Collegio, communications director of American Crossroads, one of several "Super PACs" formed to take advantage of loosened campaign-finance laws that allow unlimited donations to such groups.

Groups that operate separately from campaigns aren't solely responsible for the surge in negative ads.

President Barack Obama's campaign is attacking Republican rival Mitt Romney's record as a private equity executive and as a one-term Massachusetts governor.

Obama's fellow Democrats in Congress, who had to defend Obama's unpopular health care overhaul in 2010, plan to run against equally unpopular ideas that Republicans have tried to put in place during the past two years.

In politics it is easier to play offense than defense, said U.S. Representative Steve Israel, who as head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is leading efforts to win back the House of Representatives.

"We're going to make this a referendum on Republican choices," he said.

Republicans and their allies, meanwhile, are primed to spend well over $1 billion attacking Obama and other Democrats.

"You'll see more of a message about voting against President Obama because his policies are failing the country," Collegio said.

The ratio of negative to positive ads may not differ substantially from previous election cycles, but two factors are likely to make 2012 seem nastier: the volume of advertising that will run in key states, and the rise of Super PACs along with their nonprofit sister groups, which do not have to disclose their donors.

The groups allow candidates to leave much of the dirty work of negative ads to outside allies.

NEGATIVE ADS EFFECTIVE

Restore Our Future, a Super PAC allied with Romney, has spent $47.4 million on negative ads so far, first to tear down Republican rivals such as former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum during a bruising primary season, and more recently to target Obama. The group has spend just $6.8 million on ads supporting Romney.

In the same vein, Priorities USA Action, a Super PAC that supports Obama, has spent $10.1 million attacking Romney and nothing on ads boosting Obama.

Voters often say they don't like negative ads, but political analysts say they deliver results. That seems to be the case this year.

A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released on Wednesday found that voters in battleground states view Romney less favorably than they did before Obama and Priorities USA launched a negative ad blitz targeting Romney's business career.

Voters in those states also hold a more negative opinion of Romney's career with the private equity firm Bain Capital than voters in the rest of the country, the poll found.

"It's clear that the ads are having an impact," said Bill Burton, who heads Priorities USA Action.

POSITIVE ADS DRAW LEGAL CHALLENGES

Existing election laws also may be a factor in promoting negative advertising.

Outside groups are not allowed to work directly with the candidates they support, and because of that may face heightened scrutiny for ads highlighting the attributes of a particular candidate.

When American Crossroads ran an ad backing Ohio U.S. Senate candidate Rob Portman in 2010, the state's Democratic Party filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission.

The complaint ultimately was dismissed, but "it created a headache that no one wanted to have," said Collegio, adding, "In a weird way, the campaign laws encourage negative and contrast advertising."

That's hogwash, said Guy Cecil, who as chief of staff of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is leading his party's effort to retain control of the Senate.

There's no reason Crossroads couldn't film someone such as Montana Republican Senate candidate Dennis Rehberg speaking at a public event, for use in an ad, he said. Instead, the Super PAC has run ads critical of Democratic incumbent Jon Tester.

"It's not hard for them to run positive ads," he said. "You don't think Crossroads could access Dennis Rehberg's public schedule?"

Indeed, Crossroads said on Wednesday it would spend $184,000 airing an ad praising New Mexico's Republican Senate candidate Heather Wilson, an Air Force veteran.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has also run ads praising Republican candidates like Orrin Hatch in Utah and Linda Lingle in Hawaii.

Overall, 70 percent of the ads in this year's presidential race have been negative, according to the Wesleyan Media Project. In 2008, 9 percent were negative.

In coming months, Priorities USA will tie Romney to Republican ideas such as restricting access to contraception, cutting back stem cell research and scaling back the popular Medicare health plan for the elderly, Burton said.

He said he had little choice given the expected Republican onslaught.

"They're going to be nasty, and they're going to be dishonest, and the best we can do is make sure that we are answering point by point what they're saying about the president and what they're saying about Mitt Romney," he said.

If there's any silver lining, it's that both sides say they will steer clear of personal attacks.

"If a negative ad is running a message about how somebody had three ex-wives, and that kind of thing, that to me is very different than if you ran an ad about how somebody supported the last three tax increases," Collegio said.

(AP Photo/Lynne Sladky)

WASHINGTON (AP) ? They've known the outcome for three months. Now it's time for the nine Supreme Court justices to share it with the world.

Barring some incredibly strange twist, shortly after 10 o'clock in the morning Thursday, Chief Justice John Roberts is expected to reveal the high court's verdict on President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

Between 400 and 500 people will crowd into the marble courtroom, the only witnesses to a historic moment that will not be broadcast live on television or radio. Some of those hoping for seats already were in line early Wednesday afternoon.

The court is not just passing judgment on a major expansion of the social safety net, designed to cover an additional 30 million Americans with health insurance. It is doing so on the president's signature domestic legislative achievement and in the heat of his closely fought campaign for re-election.

Four major issues await resolution, the most important of which is whether the law's centerpiece requirement that most people have health insurance or pay a penalty is constitutional. The justices also are weighing whether other parts or indeed the entire 2010 law should fall if they strike down the insurance requirement.

Apart from the insurance mandate, the court also is considering the validity of the health care law's significant expansion of Medicaid, the joint federal-state health care program for the poor.

One wrinkle could prevent the court from deciding the fate of the insurance requirement. A mid-19th century law prohibits challenges to taxes until they have been paid. The insurance requirement does not kick in until 2014 and people who pay the penalty won't do so until they file their 2014 income tax forms by April 15, 2015.

The court devoted more than six hours to arguments about these issues over three days in late March. The justices met March 30 to take a vote on the case and sort out who would take the lead in writing the opinions. In a case of this magnitude, the chief justice probably is writing the majority opinion, assuming he is in the majority.

The 26 states and the small business group challenging the law seemed to have the better of the courtroom arguments in March. Conservative justices peppered Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. with hostile questions about both the insurance requirement and the Medicaid expansion.

But the lively arguments, the only time the justices discuss pending cases in public, are a relatively small part of a rather large record ? in this case, a mountain of more than 140 legal briefs.

Whatever the outcome, it seems certain to become part of the campaign between Obama and his Republican rival, Mitt Romney.

Obama could try to make the court itself, or more particularly its conservative majority, an issue if the insurance requirement or the whole law is struck down. For his part, Romney already has said he will try to take advantage of either outcome. If the law falls, Romney said it will show that "the first 3 1/2 years of this president's term will have been wasted on something that has not helped the American people." If the law is upheld, "we're going to have to have a president ? and I'm that one ? that's going to get rid of Obamacare. We're going to stop it on Day One," Romney said.

The case began almost as soon as Obama signed the law on March 23, 2010. Even before the day was out, Florida and 12 states filed the lawsuit that ended up at the Supreme Court. Another 13 states later joined in later.

The heart of the challenge was the claim that Congress could not force people to buy a product ? health insurance.

The administration advanced several arguments in defense of Congress' authority to require health insurance, including that it falls under the power to regulate interstate commerce.

The government also argued that the insurance requirement was necessary to make effective two other undoubtedly constitutional provisions: the requirements that insurers accept people regardless of existing health problems and limit what they charge older, sicker people.

The administration also said that even if the court rejected the first two arguments, the insurance requirement and penalty are constitutional as an exercise of Congress' power to enact taxes. The penalty assessed for not buying insurance functions like a tax, the government said.

Katherine Eban's Fast And Furious Bombshell - Business Insider

Fortune Magazine's Katherine Eban has a big report out this morning arguing the?the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) had nothing to do with letting guns into Mexico.

While the guns were definitely part of Operation Fast & Furious, a program run by ATF agents in Phoenix, Egan argues that?"gunwalking" ? the tactic of allowing guns to be trafficked, in order to track cartel networks ? was never part of the ATF's operation.

She writes that agents were actually trying to intercept the guns, by tracking and arresting people hired by the cartels to purchase the guns in the U.S., but found themselves stymied by federal attorneys who said many of the "straw purchases" were not prosecutable.

The ATF, which is overseen by Attorney General Eric Holder, has admitted it did not exercise "proper oversight" over the program, and?has reassigned almost everyone associated with the operation.

Toward the end of the piece, Egan notes that new facts are still coming to light about the Fast and Furious scandal, indicating that the?

You probably have received an email or two which was sent to you by a particular company or an online entrepreneur for the promotion of a particular product, right? Well, what if I tell you that marketing and promotions via the internet have gone to another level and have become much more interactive? There are already new and creative ways of advertising through the internet. One of which is video marketing.

What exactly is video marketing? Video marketing is a tool that is commonly used by people who are doing business online like selling products or services. This means that the advertisement or marketing is no longer just a simple text format but it already uses an actual video with footages, music and action.

Actually, it is beneficial not just for the internet marketers but also for the consumers. Why?

For the internet marketers, they benefit from video marketing because it allows them to target more potential customers and promote their business much better. With this, they can inform those people who are not really enthused by lengthy email promotions or articles. Customers become interested with the business because the videos usually catch more attention, if it is done properly, compared to the emails and articles. Aside from that, internet marketers are also able to establish rapport with their targeted market because they can either show their faces on the videos or maybe provide actual footages of the product. This is really good for business because it makes it easier to convince people to avail their product or services. Hence, internet marketers are able to make their businesses progress more with the help of video marketing.

For the consumers, they also benefit from it because it saves them the effort of having to read all the email promotions and website articles. Usually, materials that are made for are interesting and lively so as to captivate the viewers. Also, since customers are able to see the actual person who is involved in the business or maybe see the product demonstration, it is easier for them to assess if they should avail the product or not.

It is a good thing that video marketing was finally introduced because it contributes a lot for online business and transactions. ?

Marigold Road | Mindy Harris: The Healing Balm of a Good Cry

It isn't often I am inspired to write from my most inner heart (then brave enough to post), but today, in reaction to a series of touching, profoundly subtle moments and memories I simply cannot ignore, I am here at this desk, "pen at hand."

Exploring my heart and feelings and learning lessons from them is usually spurred by something the kids have so sweetly and purely enacted. Those sweet baby-souls are wholeheartedly, inexplicably, and in everything I do, my motivation and inspiration.

I have been somewhat emotional, processing deep things that haven't been talked about here. You know what it's like to want some semblance of privacy in a wanton sea of technology, curiosity, and surfacey-ness, yes? Please say yes.

Anyway, I was back home this weekend, briefly for a baby shower, and the most beautiful of ladies (second cousin), eyes sapphire, was visiting. Her hobby in her retirement has been to study genealogy. Fascinating. Something I've always wanted to delve into.

?I'm a treasure hunter of sorts--our whole family has an obsession with vintage, for history.
There are treasures to be had and oh, what a high when you find one!
The same can be said for the mysteries of the past--secrets on the cusp of being brilliantly discovered. It's that scruffy dog in the farmyard of a black/white photo of children dirty from the day. Not only do you wonder about the children-and you smile at how they are so much like children today-but you also wonder about the doggy...what life was like for him, too. And you take that magnifying class down close, peering for clues, for the rouge on a flapper girl's lips, for something embroidered on a baby romper.
?

For some reason, perhaps womanly hormones, some of those pictures had me weeping. Especially the ones of my dad as an infant. My instinctual thought was, "no wonder Wilder and Story are so dern cute!" Then, I was overcome with gratitude at the long, meaningful life my dad has led and how I've been blessed/privileged to be a part of that life. Of him.
Of a history about which I want to learn more. As I age, I'm learning that being heart-on-my-sleeves-sensitive isn't always the best policy, that not everyone needs to know the guts and grime of my pains...not everyone can/should/wants to be trusted with those pearls. I have cried when I felt like it. Given myself permission to not be afraid of deep emotions. To own those emotions for the past, for the present. To let God soothe them.

Experimental drug stops breast cancer cells from growing; Eating disorders, body image concern common in women over 50; Diet high in fat and calories speeds pancreatic cancer

(June 21, 2012 - Insidermedicine)

From Cincinnati - An experimental drug can stop breast cancer cells from spreading, according to a report published in Chemistry & Biology. Results of laboratory testing revealed that the experimental drug, Rhosin, was able to inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells, did not affect non-cancerous cells and promoted the growth of early nerve cells.

From North Carolina - Most women over 50 suffer from body image concerns and eating disorder symptoms are common, according to a report published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders. Surveying nearly 1,900 women with an average age of 59, researchers found that 79% reported that their weight affected their self-perception, 62% said that their weight negatively impacted their life, 8% reported purging, 3.5% reported binge eating and that 66% were generally unhappy about their overall appearance.

N2K Presidential Race: How Obama Sidelined Rubio on Immigration

President Obama keeps a close eye on Marco Rubio.?Not an obsessively close one, mind you, but the White House?s political GPS definitely tracks his movements.

The first-term Republican senator from Florida didn?t inspire the White House?s recent immigration shift which allows some young immigrants to avoid deportation, but his efforts undoubtedly accelerated it. Rubio?s proposed Dream Act will now likely stay on the shelf.

?We were not thinking about Senator Rubio,? Cecilia Mu?oz, head of the White House Domestic Policy Council, told National Journal. ?A lot of things were responsible.? Still, Mu?oz noted that some congressional Republicans ?have focused on this issue in a different way??none more visibly than Rubio, whom top White House advisers and Obama loyalists frequently cite as the most-Obama-like figure on the GOP?s bench.

The immigration rollout wasn?t the administration?s first opportunity to neutralize the young Republican. The White House tracked closely and coyly fed stories about Rubio?s travails concerning the now-reconfirmed U.S. ambassador to El Salvador, Maria Carmen Aponte. Rubio initially voted against her, incurring the wrath of some Latinos, but voted for her this time around.

Rubio denies he has been iced on immigration, but he acknowledges that Obama?s maneuver has blunted all possible GOP movement on dealing with it in the near-term, and has shoved him, at least for the moment, off center stage.

NATIONAL JOURNAL
?S PRESIDENTIAL RACE REPORT
Obama Courts Hispanic Voters at NALEO Conference in Orlando
[Washington Post, 6/22/12] In an occasionally personal address to a group of Latino officials, President Obama looked to draw a bright line between his own efforts to help Latinos and what he called the counterproductive policies favored by his challenger, Mitt Romney.

Ahead of Obama?s Speech, Campaign Hits Romney on Immigration
[National Journal, 6/22/12] Obama?s campaign was on the attack against Romney over the GOP presumptive nominee?s position, or lack thereof, on immigration reform. Ahead of Obama?s Friday address to a group of Latino politicians and officials, the campaign said Romney still has not given a straight answer on immigration.

Ad Spending Suggests a Bigger Map For Romney
[National Journal, 6/22/12] When we look back at the 2012 campaign, we'll remember this as the week Republican groups dropped the advertising hammer and began seriously closing the financial gap, National Journal?s Reid Wilson writes.

Bain Capital Invested in Companies That Moved Jobs Overseas
[Washington Post, 6/21/12] Romney's Bain Capital invested in a series of firms that specialized in relocating jobs done by American workers to new facilities in low-wage countries like China and India. But Romney has in recent months lamented the outsourcing of American jobs, repeatedly pledging he would protect U.S. employment by getting tough on China. The Romney camp today called the story "fundamentally false."?

It's the Economies, Stupid
[National Journal, 6/22/12] Obama and Romney are discovering that the great debate over the economy is turning into a debate over a dozen different economies, making it difficult to fashion a consistent political message. Unemployment has been on a downward slide in the battleground states where the presidential contest is currently heating up.

Surprise! Voters Don't Know or Care About 'Gaffes' the Media Love
[The Atlantic, 6/22/12] ?Doing Fine? and ?Etch a Sketch? may have set the media-political world afire, but there?s good evidence to suggest that gaffes like these don?t filter down to voters.

Romney Campaign Goes Local in New Ads
[National Journal, 6/22/12] The Romney campaign hits some local sweet spots in its new television ads running in?Iowa,?North Carolina,?Ohio, and?Virginia. Moving away from its ?Day One? theme, the campaign is now outlining what the first 100 days of a Romney presidency would look like.

Rick Scott Goes Off Message: Florida Economy Is Doing 'Extremely Well'
[TPM, 6/22/12] Gov. Rick Scott boasted to Latino officials that the economy in Florida is booming--hours before Obama spoke at the same event. If Romney told him to present the economy negatively, he didn't seem to listen.

Liberal Fat Cats Wimp Out ?
[The New Republic, 6/22/12] ?With every passing week, Democratic insiders are becoming more and more panicked that, by November, their Republican opponents will have buried them under a mountain of money. But it turns out that the Democrats? biggest problem this cycle isn?t financial, it?s existential: They're squeamish about all that filthy money.

Romney's Hidden Campaign Cash
[Washington Post, 6/22/12] One of the quirks of campaign finance reporting is that, while the committee Obama uses to raise money for his campaign and the Democratic National Committee reports its totals monthly, Romney?s version of that joint committee has yet to file a report. How much is in it? The Post takes a crack at figuring it out.

Calculating 'House Effects' of Polling Firms ?
[New York Times, 6/22/12] Nate Silver explains "house effects," which are systematic tendencies for polling firms to favor either the Democratic or Republican candidate. Also: why you probably shouldn?t trust polls that don?t call cell-only users.

If History Repeats, Everyone's VP Guess Is Wrong
[Real Clear Politics, 6/22/12] While every eventual GOP nominee in the last five nonincumbent presidential cycles began the race as a favorite, the same cannot be said of their VP picks, all of whom were initially regarded inside the Beltway as either blips on the political radar or not on the screen at all.

Entitlements: Obama vs. Romney
[National Journal, 6/22/12]? Entitlement issues are already at the forefront of this year's presidential race. National Journal compares Obama's and Romney?s divergent stands on issues like Medicaid, pensions, and Social Security. NJ also takes a look at four key policy advisers for each candidate.

The Reckoning
[National Journal, 6/21/12] On their face, the two candidates' visions for entitlement reform look quite different. But both are based on the notion that Medicare spending, at least, can no longer be open-ended. Obama plans to use government oversight to enforce new budget targets in the program; Romney would use consumer choice and market pressure to achieve similar goals.

Hispanic Population Soars in Key Swing States
[The Hill, 6/22/12] Soaring Hispanic populations in toss-up states not usually associated with Hispanic voters has changed the traditional political calculus heading into Election Day -- especially as the Supreme Court is expected to rule soon on a controversial Arizona immigration law.

Romney Hosts Big Donors, Political Stars at Park City?
[Salt Lake Tribune, 6/21/12] Romney's most significant financial backers are going to the Deer Valley Resort this weekend to spend time with the candidate and other Republican elected officials. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Sen. John Thune,?R-S.D., and Karl Rove are expected.

Artist's cancer journey is spiritual journey, too

By CATHY DYSON

The words on the index cards gave Tracey Clarke comfort when she needed it most.

The Stafford County woman was undergoing radiation treatments last fall to destroy the cancer in her brain. Five times a week for six weeks, she climbed onto a treatment bed, got under cushioned grips that held her in place, and had a netting pulled tightly over her face.

"It was just nerve-wracking," she said. "You have your head sort of tacked down to a table, and you can't move."

In those dark moments when the radiation machine aimed a powerful beam at her head, Tracey found comfort in words she'd written on the cards.

Usually, the night before the treatments, Tracey said the Lord brought a line of Scripture to her mind, and she wrote it down on large index cards that she carried into the radiation room with her.

They were passages from the English Standard Version of the Bible, of Paul's messages of encouragement in the New Testament or about stories of suffering in the Old Testament.

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.--Romans 8:38

Tracey and her husband, Craig, have relied heavily on Scripture, and their faith, as they've dealt with her catastrophic illness. Tracey has an aggressive malignant brain tumor called glioblastoma multiforme, or GBM.

The typical life expectancy is 12 to 18 months after diagnosis, and "she's at month 11," Craig said.

'TRIALS OF MANY KINDS'

Now 43, Tracey was in the best physical shape of her life when her world changed in an instant.

It was last July. Craig was out of town on a business trip, and Tracey, an artist known for her mythical paintings, started having strange sensations.

She felt like wind was rushing over her, as if an industrial fan was aimed her way. Then, she had a strange feeling in her left arm, and started experiencing odd smells and sounds.

Tracey feared she was having a stroke or aneurysm and went to the emergency room.

Introduction and Temporary History of Satellites and Communication ...

Introduction and Brief History of Satellites

A satellite is any object that orbits another object (which is known as its primary). All masses that are part of the solar system, including the Earth, are satellites either of the Sun, or satellites of those objects, such as the Moon. It is not always a simple matter to decide which is the ?satellite? in a pair of bodies. Because all objects exert gravity, the motion of the primary object is also affected by the satellite. If two objects are ufficiently similar in mass, they are generally referred to as a binary system rather than a primary object and satellite. The general criterion for an object to be a satellite is that the center of mass of the two objects is inside the primary object. In popular usage, the term ?satellite? normally refers to an artificial satellite (a man-made object that orbits the Earth or another body).

In May, 1946, the Preliminary Design of an Experimental World-Circling Spaceship stated, ?A satellite vehicle with appropriate instrumentation can be expected to be one of the most potent scientific tools of the Twentieth Century. The achievement of a satellite craft would produce repercussions comparable to the explosion of the atomic bomb??

The space age began in 1946, as scientists began using captured German V-2 rockets to make measurements in the upper atmosphere. Before this period, scientists used balloons that went up to 30 km and radio waves to study the ionosphere. From 1946 to 1952, upper-atmosphere research was conducted using V-2s and Aerobee rockets. This allowed measurements of atmospheric pressure, density, and temperature up to 200 km. The U.S. had been considering launching orbital satellites since 1945 under the Bureau of Aeronautics of the United States Navy. The Air Force?s Project RAND eventually released the above report, but did not believe that the satellite was a potential military weapon; rather they considered it to be a tool for science, politics, and propaganda. Following pressure by the American Rocket Society, the National Science Foundation, and the International Geophysical Year, military interest picked up and in early 1955 the Air Force and Navy were working on Project Orbiter, which involved using a Jupiter C rocket to launch a small satellite called Explorer 1 on January 31, 1958.

On July 29, 1955, the White House announced that the U.S. intended to launch satellites by the spring of 1958. This became known as Project Vanguard. On July 31, the Soviets announced that they intended to launch a satellite by the fall of 1957 and on October 4, 1957 Sputnik I was launched into orbit, which triggered the Space Race between the two nations.

The largest artificial satellite currently orbiting the earth is the International Space Station, which can sometimes be seen with the unaided human eye.

Types of satellites

? Astronomical satellites: These are satellites used for observation of distant planets, galaxies, and other outer space objects.

? Communications satellites: These are artificial satellites stationed in space for the purposes of telecommunications using radio at microwave frequencies. Most communications satellites use geosynchronous orbits or near-geostationary orbits, although some recent systems use low Earth-orbiting satellites.

? Earth observation satellites are satellites specifically designed to observe Earth from orbit, similar to reconnaissance satellites but intended for non-military uses such as environmental monitoring, meteorology, map making etc. (See especially Earth Observing System.)

? Navigation satellites are satellites which use radio time signals transmitted to enable mobile receivers on the ground to determine their exact location. The relatively clear line of sight between the satellites and receivers on the ground, combined with ever-improving electronics, allows satellite navigation systems to measure location to accuracies on the order of a few metres in real time.

? Reconnaissance satellites are Earth observation satellite or communications satellite deployed for military or intelligence applications. Little is known about the full power of these satellites, as governments who operate them usually keep information pertaining to their reconnaissance satellites classified.

? Solar power satellites are proposed satellites built in high Earth orbit that use microwave power transmission to beam solar power to very large antenna on Earth where it can be used in place of conventional power sources.

? Space stations are man-made structures that are designed for human beings to live on in outer space. A space station is distinguished from other manned spacecraft by its lack of major propulsion or landing facilities ? instead, other vehicles are used as transport to and from the station. Space stations are designed for medium-term living in orbit, for periods of weeks, months, or even years.

? Weather satellites are satellites that primarily are used to monitor the weather and/or climate of the Earth.

? Miniaturized satellites are satellites of unusually low weights and small sizes. New classifications are used to categorize these satellites: minisatellite (500-200 kg), microsatellite (below 200 kg), nanosatellite (below 10 kg).

Orbit types

Many times satellites are characterized by their orbit. Although a satellite may orbit at almost any height, satellites are commonly categorized by their altitude:

? Low Earth Orbit (LEO: 200 ? 1200km above the Earth?s surface)

? Medium Earth Orbit (ICO or MEO: 1200 ? 35286 km)

? Geosynchronous Orbit (GEO: 35786 km above Earth?s surface) and Geostationary Orbit ( zero inclination geosynchronous orbit). These orbits are of particular interest for communication satellites and will be discussed in detail later.

? High Earth Orbit (HEO: above 35786 km)

The following orbits are special orbits that are also used to categorize satellites:

? Molniya orbits: Is a class of a highly elliptic orbit. A satellite placed in this orbit spends most of its time over a designated area of the earth, a phenomenon known as apogee dwell. Molniya orbits are named after a series of Soviet/Russian Molniya communications satellites that have been using this class of orbits since the mid 1960s.

? Heliosynchronous or sun-synchronous orbit: A heliosynchronous orbit, or more commonly a sun-synchronous orbit is an orbit in which an object always passes over any given point of the Earth?s surface at the same local solar time. This is a useful characteristic for satellites that image the earth?s surface in visible or infrared wavelengths (e.g. weather, spy and remote sensing satellites).

? Polar orbit : A satellite in a polar orbit passes above or nearly above both poles of the planet (or other celestial body) on each revolution.

? Hohmann transfer orbit: For this particular orbit type, it is more common to identify the satellite as a spacecraft. In astronautics and aerospace engineering, the Hohmann transfer orbit is an orbital maneuver that moves a spacecraft from one orbit to another.

? Supersynchronous orbit or drift orbit : orbit above GEO. Satellites will drift in a westerly direction.

? Subsynchronous orbit or drift orbit: orbits close to but below GEO. Used for satellites undergoing station changes in an eastern direction.

Communication Satellites

A communications satellite (sometimes abbreviated to comsat) is an artificial satellite stationed in space for the purposes of telecommunications. Modern communications satellites use geosynchronous orbits, Molniya orbits or low Earth orbits.

For fixed services, communications satellites provide a technology complementary to that of fiber optic submarine communication cables. For mobile applications, such as communications to ships and planes satellite based communicationis only the viable means of communications as application of other technologies, such as cable, are impractical or impossible.

Early missions: The origin of satellite communication can be traced to an article written by Arthur C. Clarke in 1945. He suggested that a radio relay satellite in an equatorial orbit with a period of 24 hours would remain stationary with respect to earth?s surface and can be used for long-range radio communication, as it will over come the limitations imposed by earth curvature. Sputnik 1, The world?s first artificial (non communication) satellite, was launched on October 4, 1957. The first satellite to relay communications was Project SCORE in 1958, which used a tape recorder to store and forward voice messages. It was used to send a Christmas greeting to the world from President Eisenhower. NASA launched an Echo satellite in 1960. This 100-foot aluminized Mylar balloon served as a passive reflector for radio communications. Courier 1B, (built by Philco) also was launched in 1960, was the world?s first active repeater satellite. Given below are the details of milestones in satellite communcation history: -

? Herman Potocnik ? describes a space station in geosynchronous orbit ? 1928

? Arthur C. Clarke ? proposes a station in geosynchronous orbit to relay communications and broadcast television ? 1945

? Project SCORE ? first communications satellite ? 1958

? Echo I ? first passive reflector satellite ? August 1960

? Courier 1B ? first active repeater satellite ? October 1960

? Telstar ? the first active direct relay satellite designed to transmit television and high-speed data communications. Telstar was placed in an elliptical orbit (completed once every 2 hours and 37 minutes), rotating at a 45? angle above the equator. July 1962

? Syncom ? first communications satellite in geosynchronous orbit. Syncom 2 revolved around the earth once per day at constant speed, but

Are you your own worst enemy? If so, the following gadgets might be able to help you overcome some?relatively minor shortcomings. That is to say, if you're reading this while wearing a fake mustache while frantically trying to make your way to the border,? sorry???but you've probably got bigger problems to tackle.

Ben & Jerry's pint lock
While technically designed to prevent others from stealing your ice cream, the Ben & Jerry's pint lock or "Euphori-Lock" can serve as a dietary deterrent as well. You probably won't remember the combination, and that means trying to find where you wrote it down. Then you have to enter in the combination itself. Way too many steps???though I might not be above cracking the pint open like a coconut and going in face first like a starving castaway.? $6.64???Ben&Jerry's via That's Nerdalicious

Beer Tracker bottle opener
Every time you open a beer, the Beer Tracker bottle opener will record it digitally. Hopefully, the reality of how many beers you've had will prevent awkward moments?? such as?waking up to find you have 50 Facebook messages with comments like, "The video we made of you last night is blowing up YouTube!" $10???FredFlare

A bed that makes itself
We aren't at a point where machines can completely overcome your tendency to make a mess, but a bed that can make itself is a good place to start. The OHEA Smart Bed can do just that in 50 seconds using a system of mechanical arms, cords and rollers. Granted, you'll have to be a pretty calm sleeper in order for it to work because it won't be able to handle a tangle of sheets tossed about in the night. If that sounds doable, the OHEA Smart Bed is expected to go on sale soon.???OHEA

iPhone Tank Case
If you're the kind of person who can't make it through a year without dropping and damaging your iPhone, you might want to consider a rugged case. The Tank Case from Case-Mate offers military-grade protection thanks to a polycarbonate hard shell with silicone cushioned interior and a retractable screen shield. Sure, you might have trouble fitting it?in your pants pockets (or, possibly, your car), but it's worth it for the peace of mind right? $60???Case-Mate

Toxic Waste Cookie Jar
Whenever the lid is opened on the Toxic Waste Cookie Jar, it will alert others to your unsanctioned snacking with flashing lights and an alarm sound. Using the excuse "I only did it because the horrible cookies you made are toxic and I thought they would give me superpowers" won't help. $14.99???Perpetual Kid via That's Nerdalicious

The Sonic Bomb Alarm Clock
Do you have trouble getting up in the morning? Well, that won't be a problem with the Sonic Bomb Alarm Clock. It has a maximum volume of 113 decibels (a jackhammer is around 100). If that isn?t enough, it also includes a bed shaker that you can slip under your mattress. If your heart can survive the shock, you'll always be on time. $49.99???ThinkGeek

HeadsUp
If anything, the HeadsUp sensor system proves that there a very good chance that a product exists to help you overcome just about every minor shortcoming. We've all seen garage sensor gadgets that alert you when you are about to smash into the wall, but the HeadsUp system is designed specifically to protect the expensive stuff you strap to the roof of your car. For example, if you like to go biking, you could attach a couple of waterproof sensors to the bikes, and when you return home the sensors will trigger an in-car alarm and LED sign inside the garage. In other words, it prevents you from entering the garage and smashing up your expensive gear. It's an absolute must for forgetful, outdoorsy types who have trouble with spatial relationships. $169.99???HeadsUp

Qatar Launches Discussions on Sustainability at Rio + 20 on ...

RIO DE JANEIRO, June 21, 2012 /PR Newswire/ -- Qatar's vision for innovative green growth and development took center stage at the Qatar National Pavilion at Rio + 20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development. His Excellency Dr. Saleh Al-Nabit, Secretary General of the General Secretariat for Development Planning (GSDP) set the tone for the days discussions and stressed the importance of Qatar's National Vision 2030: 'We return to Rio de Janeiro twenty years later to discuss the challenges of the 21st century. Sustainable development is crucial to Qatar's National Vision 2030, and we are here to showcase how Qatar will fulfill this ambition'.

By combining smart infrastructure, progressive social programs, ambitious education systems and world-class research and development, Qatar's Vision 2030 serves as an example for emerging nations committed to economic diversity, sustainable growth and opportunities for its people. Through the leadership of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar has committed to investing its resources in sustainable growth and development, building a foundation for long-term prosperity for this independent Gulf state.

'Qatar's National Vision 2030 outlines the strategies for balancing economic growth with social and environmental progress,' said Datuk Dr. Richard Leete, the GSDP Social Development Department Director said. 'It is important that the public and private sectors move ahead in step, pursuing their goals together.'

An exceptionally rapid rise in population -- averaging 15 percent per year between 2004 and 2008 --has generated challenges that cut across all segments of society and infrastructure, Leete explained. Addressing these issues in nations like Qatar requires a comprehensive environmental management system that mitigates the impacts of rapid population growth and the high levels of urbanization in Doha.

'The nation has already made leaps forward in terms of sustainable operations of its key industries,' shared Director of Qatar Petroleum's Health, Safety and Environment Regulations and Enforcement Directorate Saif Saeed Al-Naimi. By recovering emissions that were once flared and re-processing those gases in the system, hydrocarbon facilities in Qatar are well on their way to measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. These significant investments in developing new technologies in the field and laboratory are promising returns in high-value services and products for the industry -- a win for Qatar's economic diversification strategy, as well as the environment.

In addition to the progress led by the industrial sector, Qatar's research and development programs are producing technologies and advancements in science that are establishing the Nation as a center of excellence on the most critical problems of our time. 'The Qatar Science and Technology Park is engaged in research that ranges from alternative fuels to robotic surgery,' said Mohammad Al-Khaldy of QSTP. Not only are these initiatives improving standards of living throughout the world, but they are also diversifying the Nation's economy.

'We are proud to share these examples of Qatar's leadership on sustainable development in Rio,' said His Excellency Dr. Saleh Al-Nabit, 'This is a collaborative effort to implement a vision that helps our nation continue to take advantage of the opportunities it has for progress while also insuring that the society and environment we live in remains the kind of place we are all proud to call home.'

About GSDP

The Qatar General Secretariat for Development Planning (GSDP) sights are set on the long term, pursuing initiatives that make a difference in the lives of Qatar's citizens and people, and that are sustainable over many years. In everything it does, GSDP recognizes the important interdependencies and trade-offs among development goals and constraints and accordingly aims to integrate all national development efforts so that they are mutually reinforcing and sustainable.

GSDP's relevance to Qatar's national development hinges on its ability to consult, involve, convene and influence a whole range of stakeholders and to initiate and guide dialogue on important issues. GSDP is therefore committed to communicating with and engaging stakeholders in order them keep them abreast of development progress and strengthen its partnerships with them, while building understanding of the purpose of the national development strategy and how it will bring tangible benefits for the people of Qatar.

Positive Self Motivation is the inner drive that puts optimism into action for winning in life. Winners are driven by desire! A winner will have the desire to improve upon their own personal development. There never was a consistent winner in any walk of life, who didn?t have that burning desire to win internalized. Winners know that the basic behavioral axiom in life is the fact that you and I do become what we think about most. You and I are motivated everyday and moved by our currently dominant thoughts. In other words we move only in the direction of that what we dwell on.

Everyone in life is self motivated, a little bit or a lot, positively or negatively, even a decision to do nothing is a decision based on motivation. Motivation is a force which moves us to action, and it springs from inside the individual. Motivation is defined as a strong tendency toward or away from an object or situation, and it can be learned and developed, it doesn?t have to be inborn.

Positive Self Motivation Puts You In The Driver?s Seat of Your Life

Anyone wishing to improve upon their personal development has to, in one way or another ignite their own motivation. For too long it has been wrongly assumed that motivation is extraneous, that it can be pumped in from the outside through pep talks, or contests or rallies. Such activities do provide concepts in education, encouragement, and inspiration for individuals to turn on their creative powers, but only if they want to and only if internalized.

That?s the secret, lasting change is effected only when the need for change is both understood and internalized. Until the reward or incentive has been interrupted and internalized it has no motivational power at all. So the real winners in life are the people who have developed, as a result of an overall attitude of positive self expectancy, or optimism, a strong positive self motivation. This is key to improving upon your own personal development.

In other words they developed this ability to move in the direction of goals that they set, or roles they want to play, and they will tolerate little or no distraction from moving towards those goals. In the face of all discouragement, mistakes, and setbacks, this inner drive keeps them moving upward towards self fulfillment. Motivation is a very emotional state, and the great physical and mental motivators in life, such as survival, hunger, thirst, revenge, and love are all charged with emotion. The two key emotions which dominate all human motivation with opposite but nearly equal results are fear and desire.

Fear is the most powerful negative motivator of all, fear is the great compeler and the great inhibitor, fear restricts, tightens and panics, forces and ultimately scuttles plans and defeats goals. Fear can destroy a persons personal development and inhibit any attempt to improve it. Desire, conversely is like a strong positive magnet, it attracts, reaches, opens, and directs, and encourages, and achieves goals.

Fear and desire are poles apart and they lead to alternate destiny?s in life, fear always looks to the past, and desire looks to the future. Fear vividly replays haunting experiences of failure, pain, disappointment, and unpleasantness and is a dogged reminder that the same experiences are likely to repeat themselves. Desire on the other hand, triggers memory of pleasure and success, it excites the need to replay these and to create new winning experiences. The consuming prison words of the fearsome person are likely to be, I have to, I can?t, I see risk, and I wish. But desire says I want to, I can, I see opportunity, and I will. Desire is that emotional state between where you are and where you want to be. To have successful personal development, we have to learn to deal with fear as well as with desire.

In life winners know that all of their actions will be controlled by their currently dominant thoughts and that you cannot dwell on the reverse of an idea. That?s why you can?t lose weight if you keep thinking about how fat you are, you can?t stop smoking if you see yourself as a smoker and that?s why you can?t get rich if you are worried about your bills. Winners see risk as opportunity, they see the rewards of success in advance, and they don?t see the penalties of failure. They see personal development as a positive step towards a better life. Individuals dominated by fear, they can?t act with choice or positive intent, they go through life reacting in defensive. People who are dominated by stress are unable to change the world they live in, the world they live in alters them.

It?s a strange and sobering, fact that the thing we fear most, we ourselves bring to pass. Burning desire is the perfect mental anecdote, for fear, and despair. Desire sparks activity which burns up excessive adrenaline in the system. It keeps the mind busy and the hope of achievement alive. High achievers in life have strong personal development skills and they hold a high degree of motivation. The enduring power that moves them to action comes from inside themselves. Success in life is not reserved for the few, success is almost totally dependent upon drive and persistence.

We need to really learn and remember how to really develop this winning action quality of positive self motivation. It?s important for you to remember that everybody is self motivated, either a little bit or a lot, positively or negatively and that motivation is not optional, even the decision to do nothing is a motivation. Each of us is motivated by our fears or our desires. Fear is unavoidable because it can get you out of danger, and save your life, it can save a child?s life, but as a habit or a way of life, fear has an extremely destructive side effect.

Fear is a red light that can stop dangerous behavior, but desire is the green light that lets you go forward toward your goals. So your most valuable exercise in developing positive self motivation is to try to replace fear motivation with desire motivation. Fortunately, because fear and desire are two sides of the same coin, this is not as difficult as it appears to be. Fear of poverty can be replaced with desire for affluence.

Fear of sickness can be replaced with desire for good health, fear of failure can be replaced with desire for success. All these actions must be present to attain improved personal development. A lack of effort is the same as giving in, when there is no true attempt to seek improvement, there can be no improvement at all to relish over. Don?t let the fear of failure halt you in your journey for greater personal development, hold onto the desire for complete success and true life fulfillment. Winners realize that they are motivated by their currently dominant thought, so your concentration should be on the reward of the success that you seek, rather then the possible penalty of failure. Make desire your currently dominant thought and it will propel you with the motivating energy for success in every area of your daily life.

Behind every winner is the burning desire, of optimism and enthusiasm toward the reward of success and not the penalty of failure, toward the solution in place of the problems and toward the answer in place of the question. Behind every winner is the burning desire, the absolute need, and the never ending drive for complete improved personal development.

To Follow are Some Action Reminders Towards Positive Self Motivation!

First off, replace the word can?t with can in the daily vocabulary, can applies to about 95% of the challenges you encounter.

Next, replace the word ?try? with ?will,? in your daily vocabulary, this is a form of semantics and simply establishes your new attitude of dwelling on things you will do rather then on things you plan to try with that built in excuse in advance for possible failure. Focus all your attention and energy on the achievement of the objective your involved in right now, forget about the consequences of failure. Keep your drive for personal development at the for front of your mind.

Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success. Remember you usually get what you think of most. Next, make a list of your five most important wants or desires, and right next to each, put down what the payoff or benefit is when you achieve it. Look at this list before you go to bed each night and upon waking each morning. Always give solution oriented feedback when people tell you their problems. When the problems are your own, focus on the immediate thought??Whats the answer?? Seek out and talk to a person, this week, that is currently doing what it is you want to do most, and be certain that it is someone who is doing it well. This applies to anything, earning, or selling, skiing, or acting, speaking, managing, or even being a good spouse or parent.

Find an expert, get the facts, make a project of learning everything you can about other winners in the field. Take a course in it, get personal lessons and generate excitement by mentally seeing yourself enjoying the success. Finally, make it a habit for everyone of your goals, to repeat again, and again, ?I want to, I can, I want to, I can.? The power these steps will have on the improvement of your personal development, is unmeasurable. You will feel empowered, strengthened, and successful, nothing can stop you, your achievements will pile one upon another, you will know what true personal development feels like in action.
